Markel opens India officeOctober 5 2018 by InsuranceAsia News Staff
Markel has set-up the office after winning a license to write reinsurance business in India from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority in June.
Matt Cannock, Markel International’s managing director for Asia, commented: “Establishing the office in Mumbai has been a complex undertaking involving Markel teams around the world . . . we are looking forward to servicing our existing relationships better and to starting many more new ones.”
Markel is providing specialist facultative reinsurance to local Indian insurers for classes including contingency, energy, marine and professional and financial risks; Deepika Mathur is overseeing the office.
Capacity is provided by Markel’s Syndicate 3000 at Lloyd’s and written through the Lloyd’s India platform.
