InsuranceAsia News wraps up the people moves from the insurance industry in Asia this week.
1. Markel executive to return to UK by end of 2025
Markel’s Asia Pacific managing director Christian Stobbs has confirmed his “desire” to return to the UK by the end of 2025, adding that the Lloyd’s carrier has started to look for his replacement. Stobbs has been heading the APAC operations for Markel International since June 2019, having moved to Singapore in February as Asia strategy director.

2. Marsh makes Pacific, Australasia changes
Tom Burrell will relocate from the UK to Sydney to take up the role of head of private equity mergers and acquisitions for the Pacific region at Marsh. Burrell has spent just over eight and a half years with Marsh UK in various leadership roles, most recently as the head of transaction advisory.
Marsh Australia and New Zealand, meanwhile, has elevated Ross Hoy as its renewable energy leader for the Pacific region. Prior to the promotion, Sydney-based Hoy was a principal with Marsh for more than four years from January 2021. Previously, he was a client manager with Gallagher for 10 months from April 2020, his LinkedIn profile showed.

3. Allied World hands out expanded role
Fairfax-owned (re)insurer Allied World has appointed Ada Lui (pictured) as deputy country head of its Hong Kong branch, effective from April 1. The new role is in addition to her current position as senior vice president and head of APAC pricing.

4. HDI promotes new underwriting manager for APAC political, credit risk
HDI Global has promoted James Guardino to underwriting manager, political and credit risk for Asia Pacific. Singapore-based Guardino was most recently a senior underwriter for the line at the industrial insurer. He had held the role since joining HDI in July 2023.

5. Bajaj Allianz names head of technical for agri business
Bajaj Allianz has hired Shashank Kaushik as head of technical for its agricultural business. Pune-based Kaushik joins from Munich Re, where he spent more than six years, most recently in the role of senior underwriter supporting key clients across APAC and Africa and was previously actuarial manager and underwriter for agriculture – India, Thailand, and South Korea. At the reinsurer, he led the development, maintenance, and enhancement of actuarial models, according to his LinkedIn profile.

6. India’s Unilight appoints executive director
India’s Unilight Insurance Brokers has appointed Sumit Bohra (pictured) as executive director. Mumbai-based Bohra was previously GlobeSecure Insurance Brokers’ CEO, where he worked for 21 years from January 2004, his LinkedIn profile showed.

7. WTW elevates Carlos Ortega as cyber leader for Hong Kong, greater China
Global broker WTW has promoted Carlos Grijalva Ortega to cyber leader for Hong Kong and greater China. Ortega, who was earlier lead for Hong Kong, has held senior roles across Asia and Latin America, focusing on financial and cyber insurance.
