Markel International, the specialist insurer, has appointed Christian Stobbs as strategy director for Asia.
Based in Singapore, Stobbs (pictured) will focus on developing and driving the company’s strategic priorities in the region.
Markel, which has a regional presence in China, India, Malaysia and Singapore, is seeking to further its links with local insurers and distributors, as well as develop products for emerging risks.
Matt Cannock, managing director of Markel Asia, said: “[Stobbs’s] appointment underlines our ambition for the region as we foster new alliances and partnerships. He is an experienced strategy and business development professional and so will be invaluable as we continue to grow our portfolio in Asia.”
Stobbs joins the team in Singapore from Abbey Tax, a Markel firm based in the UK, where he was the managing director and helped develop the company into one of the UK’s leading tax advisory businesses.
Before joining Abbey Tax, Stobbs was a strategy and development executive at Markel’s London office and prior to that he was with the Boston Consulting Group.
