Lloyd’s, Allianz Trade, Chubb, Howden, Axa XL: 10 APAC insurance people moves of the week

InsuranceAsia News wraps up the people moves from the insurance industry in Asia this week.

1. Lloyd’s names new CEO

Lloyd’s has appointed chief of markets Patrick Tiernan as its new CEO, effective from June 1. He succeeds John Neal, who announced at the start of January that he was to leave the role to join broking giant Aon.

Tiernan joined Lloyd’s in May 2021 as the organisation’s first chief of markets, responsible for underwriting, claims, exposure management, market oversight and international regulation, distribution, new entrant strategy, Lloyd’s Global Network, Lloyd’s Lab, Lloyd’s Academy and Lloyd’s global agents, Lloyd’s said in the press release.

The appointment is subject to approval and consent from the Prudential Regulation Authority and the Financial Conduct Authority.

2. Allianz Trade’s appoints Asia Pacific CEO

Allianz Trade has appointed Rodrigo Jimenez as Asia Pacific regional CEO, succeeding Paul Flanagan, who is retiring after a 34-year career with the global leader in trade credit insurance. Jimenez will begin a three-month transition period from July 1 and officially take over the helm on October 1. The appointment is subject to regulatory approval requirements.

3. Chubb promotes head of power and construction for Asia

Titus Samuel ChubbChubb has promoted Titus Samuel (pictured) to head of power and construction for Asia. In the role, Singapore-based Samuel (pictured) will be responsible for setting the strategic direction of these two product lines and building out the team to service the growing needs of Chubb’s key partners and stakeholders across the region.

4. Howden names Singapore-based regional fac head

Howden has promoted Leo King to managing director and head of its direct wholesale and corporate facultative property business for Asia Pacific at Howden Specialty. Singapore-based King has been working with Howden for the past over 15 years, and was most recently an executive director with the global insurer since April 2021.

5. Axa XL appoints veteran as APAC, Europe CFO

Axa XL has appointed Marc Audrin as executive director, CFO, and company secretary for APAC and Europe. Dublin-based Audrin has been with Axa Group for over 32 years, with his most recent role being Axa XL’s CFO for APAC, Europe, and XL Insurance Company SE.

6. GAIP appoints new CEO

Global Asia Insurance Partnership (GAIP) has named Min Hung Cheng (pictured) as its new CEO, effective May 6. Singapore-based Cheng was most recently the interim CEO following the departure of the CEO John Maroney.

7. Everest jets in senior APAC aviation underwriter

Global insurer Everest has appointed Olivia Clark as a senior underwriter for aviation for Asia Pacific. Clark has relocated from London to Singapore, having previously worked at Chubb and Nexus Group.

8. ‘Industry legend’ returns to AIG Australia as senior commercial property underwriter

Paul Schappacher (pictured) has returned to AIG as a senior underwriter for commercial property in Australia. Melbourne-based Schappacher most recently worked within Chubb Australia’s major accounts division as a senior property underwriter for the southern region for over five years from March 2020.

9. MSIG Asia expands digital, corporate capabilities with 3 leadership appointments

MSIG Asia has expanded its digital and corporate capabilities with three leadership appointments – Adrian Hill as chief digital and consumer officer, Enny Halim as chief corporate officer, and Pearline Soh as head of digital marketing. The appointments took effect on May 1, 2025. MSIG Asia is making strategic investments in its digital and corporate capabilities to unlock data value, expand market reach, and accelerate business growth.

10. Sompo makes APAC operational excellence role appointment

Specialty (re)insurer Sompo has appointed Wei Beng Toh as assistant vice president for operational excellence in Asia Pacific, effective from May 5. Singapore-based Toh will report to Kent Leong, head of commercial operations and projects in APAC.

Other moves you may have missed

As part of a repositioning, IAG’s Intermediated Insurance Australia (IIA) has appointed Fiona Geddes as executive general manager (EGM) operations. She will head up the newly formed operations function.

Also, Damien Gallagher has been promoted to the newly established position of EGM CX and growth CGU and WFI. Gallagher, who was earlier executive general manager for CGU, will oversee brand and growth activity for CGU and WFI Insurance, now united under a single functional area.

In other appointments within the business, Darren O’Connell has been named as EGM of underwriting and product, Tim Rafton as EGM of intermediated claims, Christa Marjoribanks as CFO, and Natalie May as executive manager for people and culture.

Meanwhile, former EGM WFI Andrew Beer will leave the business after 40 years with the company.
