Howden, Marsh, Gallagher Re, Price Forbes: 16 APAC insurance people moves of the week

InsuranceAsia News wraps up the people moves from the insurance industry in Asia this week.

1. Howden names leads for Japan natural resources, Australian aviation

Howden has appointed Junichiro Ito as head of natural resources for Japan.

Tokyo-based Ito has been leading commercial strategy for energy company GE Vernova’s offshore wind business in Japan since February 2022, having previously spent over 17 years with Tokio Marine in various underwriting roles in Singapore and Japan.

The broker has also appointed Elizabeth Antoine as a partner for aviation in Australia.

Melbourne-based Antoine will lead the establishment and growth of Howden’s new aviation practice in Australia.

2. Marsh bolsters Asia marine team with trio appointment, promotes SVP to country sales lead in Thailand

Marsh Risk has appointed Deborah Errappa as senior vice president and cargo Leader for Marsh Singapore, James Gargrave as senior vice president and P&I leader for Asia and Haroun Shadid as senior vice president and strategic client director for Singapore.

Errappa has relocated from South Africa to Singapore, where she had been a marine specialist leader for WTW since March 2024.

Gargrave, meanwhile, joins from Latitude Brokers, where he had been the P&I director since December 2023.

Finally, Shadid last held the position of client executive for Marsh in Norwich, England.

Marsh Thailand has promoted Warakan Suwannaard to country sales leader.

Bangkok-based Suwannaard has been working for the broker for over five years, most recently as senior vice president for specialty growth leader and construction practice leader.

3. Gallagher Re hires operations director for APAC

Gallagher Re has appointed Sisouda Dayre as operations director for APAC.

Singapore-based Dayre was most recently regional head of health operations for APAC at Allianz Partners, having also held other roles related to protection and resilience to safeguard the insurer’s business operations, personnel and physical assets during her eight-year tenure.

4. Price Forbes Singapore appoints head of casualty MGA

Price Forbes Singapore has appointed Craig McCoig-Lees as head of casualty MGA.

McCoig-Lees will report to Bruce Ford, chief commercial officer of reinsurance and wholesale, and will be responsible for expanding Price Forbes Re’s MGA proposition, supporting third-party MGAs with access to capacity, underwriting expertise and strategic growth solutions

5. Allianz Commercial names ART business development, underwriting leader for APAC

Allianz Commercial Asia Pacific has appointed Davinder Panesar as alternative risk transfer (ART) business development and underwriting leader for the region, effective from September 1.

Based in Singapore, Panesar will lead the growth and development of Allianz Commercial’s ART capabilities across Asia Pacific, with a focus on strengthening its regional proposition.

6. Sompo taps Asia Pacific head of enterprise risk management and operations

Sompo has tapped Claire Siow Lyn Chin as its Asia Pacific head of enterprise risk management and operations.

Based in Malaysia, Chin will be responsible for strengthening risk governance and oversight, leading cross-regional initiatives, enhancing risk reporting and insights, and ensuring effective coordination across markets and functions

7. Pinnacle Underwriting names casualty, financial lines head for ANZ

Australian specialty facultative reinsurance MGA Pinnacle Underwriting has hired James Kyte as its head of casualty and financial lines for Australia and New Zealand.

Kyte (pictured) was most recently a senior underwriter for cyber and facultative casualty for Australasia at Hannover Re.

8. Allianz Trade promotes Australian senior underwriter to Asia Pacific role to accelerate surety growth

Allianz Trade has appointed Daf Owen as regional surety business development director in Asia Pacific, effective from August 1.

In this newly created role, Owen will be responsible for driving the trade credit insurer’s surety growth strategy across the region.

9. QBE appoints senior claims officer in Australia

QBE has appointed John McLean as senior claims officer for its major loss and complex property portfolio.

In the role, he will lead complex commercial property, ISR and construction matters involving significant financial exposure, multi‑party environments and specialist technical considerations.

10. Mapfre Re India appoints non-life treaty underwriter at Gift City

Mapfre Re’s Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (Gift City) branch office in India has appointed Supreeth TK as a non-life treaty underwriter.

TK previously spent over six years at Swiss Re, first as a senior analyst before getting promoted to assistant vice president, focusing on underwriting cat and non-cat treaty.

11. Lloyd’s coverholder Salt hires Chris Dent as marine manager

Australian Lloyd’s coverholder Salt Marine Risks has hired Chris Dent as marine manager, effective from July 28.

Sydney-based Dent has more than 20 years of marine insurance experience, with deep expertise across marine liability, commercial hull and cargo, and joins from QBE.

12. Niyam Group names director of risk and compliance

India-focused reinsurance start-up Niyam Group has appointed Prathemesh Apte as its director of risk and compliance.

Before joining Niyam, Apte spent more than seven years at Bajaj General Insurance, where he served for nearly four years as vertical head of compliance and risk.

HDI Global has appointed Byron Ernst as an underwriter for power and energy in Sydney.

14. Berkley Insurance Asia names liability lines underwriter in Gift City

Berkley Insurance Asia has appointed Shivi Bhutani as a liability lines underwriter based in Gujarat International Finance Tech-City (Gift City) in India.

Bhutani brings a strong foundation in liability insurance, legal research, and underwriting, and previously worked as a liability underwriter at ICICI Lombard for just over one year.

Aon has appointed Joe Liang as executive chairman of greater China for reinsurance, effective immediately. Drawing on senior leadership roles in China and the US, Liang will help strengthen the firm’s offerings, enable innovation and drive growth across Greater China.

Tower Insurance has named Len Elikhis as its new permanent CFO, effective from November, subject to regulatory approval. He will join Tower from PPS Mutual in November, where he has been CFO and operating officer since 2023, driving the mutual life insurer’s expansion into the Kiwi market.
