Data: 2015 share performance

December 17 2015 by Nick Ferguson

Asian insurers’ share prices are slightly down for 2015 after fluctuating wildly during the year.

The region’s reinsurers, led by China Re and Korea Re, have had a particularly turbulent year. The SNL Asia Pacific Reinsurance index is close to 15% down from the start of the year after being in positive territory as recently as October.

All other types of insurers have had similarly up-and-down performance during the course of 2015. Property-and-casualty players have recorded the best performance, ending the year pretty much flat, albeit on a steeply declining trend. The index’s biggest component companies include MS&AD in Japan, IAG in Australia and PICC P&C in China.

Multiline and life-and-health insurers are down roughly 5%, led by AIA, China Life, Ping An and Tokio Marine.
