Aon, Suncorp, QBE, WTW, Aviso Specialty: 18 APAC insurance people moves of the week

InsuranceAsia News wraps up the people moves from the insurance industry in Asia this week.

1. Aon refreshes Australia leadership roles, appoints regional strategic account manager for Asia

Helen Lockwood will take over as Aon’s Australian COO from January as part of an “ongoing evolution” of the broker’s business in the country.

Sydney-based Lockwood has been head of affinity and small business in Australia since February 2025, having joined Aon in October 2022 from Suncorp.

As part of the changes, head of commercial risk for Australia, Ben Rolfe, has expanded his role to chief broking officer for the Pacific, effective this month.

Sydney-based Rolfe has been with Aon for over 27 years.

Head of construction Mary-Catherine Hamill, meanwhile, joins the Australian executive leadership team this month with an expanded remit.

Hamill was promoted to head of construction in Australia in May 2025.

Aon also appointed Kayo Montgomery as regional strategic account manager for Asia, based in Tokyo.

Montgomery is relocating to Japan from the US, where she served as regional director for Japan Global Solutions for US Central.

2. Suncorp reshuffles leadership team after profits tumble

Australian insurer Suncorp announced a reshuffle of its executive leadership on Wednesday, including a new chief risk officer and its commercial and consumer insurance chiefs swapping roles.

Bridget Messer, currently chief risk officer, has been appointed to the newly created role of chief executive of customer, brand and digital.

As a result, Michelle Bain, currently executive general manager of compulsory third-party insurance, will join the executive leadership team as Suncorp’s chief risk officer.

Bain has held a range of senior leadership roles across Suncorp, including acting group general counsel, executive general manager of compliance, and group customer advocate.

Elsewhere, Lisa Harrison, currently chief executive of consumer insurance, will move across to lead the commercial and personal Injury portfolios, while retaining accountability for the rollout of Suncorp’s digital insurer program.

Michael Miller will shift from his current position of chief executive of commercial and personal Injury to take on the role of chief executive of consumer insurance.

3. QBE Australia’s business MD to depart

QBE Australia’s managing director of business, Elliot Hill, has left the company.

Melbourne-based Hill joined QBE in 2019 as general manager before being promoted to his current role in 2022, and will remain with QBE until August 31 to support a smooth transition.

4. WTW names new head of Hong Kong, Macau

WTW has announced the appointment of Jayne Bok as its head of Hong Kong and Macau, effective immediately.

Hong Kong-based Bok will continue in her existing role as head of investments for Asia alongside her new responsibilities leading WTW’s business operations in Hong Kong and Macau.

5. Aviso Specialty names financial lines head, manager

Aviso Specialty has appointed Paul Smyth as head of financial lines.

Melbourne-based Smyth joins from Gallagher, where he had been a client director since joining in March 2025.

The Australian broker has appointed Shane Aitken as manager for financial lines.

Sydney-based Aitken has 20 years of broking experience, most recently as a principal within Marsh Specialty’s finpro team, where he worked for over six years.

6. Hong Kong reappoints current Insurance Authority chief

The Hong Kong government has reappointed Clement Cheung Wan-ching as chief executive officer of the Insurance Authority (IA) for a three-year term, extending his leadership through until August 14, 2029.

Cheung, who has led the Hong Kong Insurance Authority since 2018, is due to complete his current three-year term on Friday.

7. MSIG Thailand appoints cyber insurance manager

MSIG Insurance Thailand has appointed Sirinpond Sukkarin as a manager within its specialty unit, focusing on cyber insurance.

She was most recently a manager at Dhipaya Group, the parent company of Dhipaya Insurance, leading cross-functional teams in developing and managing cyber and financial risk insurance portfolios.

8. Etiqa Insurance Singapore promotes CFO to CEO

Etiqa Insurance Singapore has appointed Claudia Soh as its chief executive officer.

Soh has been serving as acting chief executive officer while also holding her role as chief financial officer for the last six months.

9. Integra Technical Services names Australia, New Zealand MD, appoints global mining head

Engle Martin-backed loss adjuster Integra Technical Services has appointed Mark Thompson as its managing director for Australia and New Zealand.

Sydney-based Thompson will join Integra once he completes his required notice period with Charles Taylor, where he has been the regional head for Australia and New Zealand and managing director for property, casualty, specialty and technical lines since November 2021.

Ian Clendenning has also been appointed as global head of mining for Integra.

Clendenning, who has over four decades of experience as a dual-qualified engineer and chartered loss adjuster, will join the firm on October 1.

10. Howden strengthens Hong Kong financial lines team

Howden has added Sonija Cheng to its financial lines team in Hong Kong as a director.

Cheng has joined Howden after more than seven years at Willis in Hong Kong, where she was an associate director.

11. Edgewise Insurance Brokers appoints head of construction broking

Edgewise Insurance Brokers has appointed Joe Keiper as its head of construction broking, effective from Monday.

Melbourne-based Keiper has joined Edgewise from rival broker EBM Insurance & Risk, where he was a client director for construction and marine from February 2025 until August.

12. QIB Group names chief broking officer

Australian broker QIB Group has promoted Alan Moran to chief broking officer.

Moran will join QIB’s executive leadership team and take charge of its commercial broking operations across the company’s 17 general and specialist broking businesses.

Brisbane-based Moran was previously at Austcover, a subsidiary broker of QIB Group, for over two decades. He was most recently general manager and head of broking, with Peter Apolakiatis named as his replacement.

13. PICC appoints veteran banker as chairman

The People’s Insurance Company of China (PICC) has appointed Tan Jiong as executive director and chairman of the board.

Tan will begin his term upon shareholder approval and regulatory clearance from the National Financial Regulatory Administration (NFRA) and once approved, he will also chair the board’s strategy and investment/sustainable development committee.

14. Sompo appoints property underwriter for Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan

Sompo has appointed Dave Wong as property underwriter for Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

In the role, Wong will help drive the growth of Sompo’s property and construction portfolio, strengthen the underwriting capabilities and deliver solutions for brokers and clients.

15. Marsh appoints principal in Australia

Evan Danilo has returned to Australia to take up a new role as a principal within Marsh’s Perth office.

Danilo was most recently an account manager at Lockton in Chicago from January 2025 until July, having previously held roles at PSC Insurance Brokers, Elliott Insurance Brokers, Gallagher and Marsh, where he originally began his insurance career in 2016.

16. Swiss Re elevates CRO to chief underwriting officer of L&H Re

Swiss Re has appointed Karen Tan as chief underwriting officer for life & health reinsurance effective October 1, according to a press release.

Tan will continue to be based in Singapore and will relocate to Zurich in due course, she is currently the chief risk officer of L&H Re.

17. bolttech taps ‘accomplished leader’ as Malaysia GM

Global insurtech bolttech has appointed Rohith Murthy as general manager of Malaysia.

Kuala Lumpur-based Murthy will oversee bolttech’s operations and growth strategy in Malaysia, with responsibility for deepening existing partner relationships, developing new distribution opportunities and expanding the reach of bolttech’s insurance and protection solutions in the market

18. Lockton hires VP for transaction liability in India

Lockton has appointed Shrungar Bhuva as vice president for transaction liability in India.

Bhuva has nearly seven years of experience advising institutional organisations, financial sponsors, sovereign wealth funds, and multinational organisations on complex public and private market transactions.

Other moves you may have missed

The UK P&I Club has hired Jeong-Sook Kim as a senior underwriting director responsible for expanding its presence in the South Korean market. Based in London, Kim (pictured) will work closely with chief underwriting officer William Beveridge, and the mutual’s wider Asia Pacific leadership team to strengthen its presence, reputation and membership base in South Korea.

Malaysian loss adjuster Malayan Adjustment has appointed David Selva as its chief operating officer. Kuala Lumpur-based Selva has 25 years of experience in the insurance industry, spanning loss adjusting, broking, and insurance. Meanwhile, Malayan Adjustment’s subsidiary, Malayan International Marine Consultants, also appointed Ahmad Nadzri as its CEO on Tuesday. 

Howden-owned MGA Dual Australia has promoted Chloe O’Toole to lead commercial underwriter, she confirmed in a LinkedIn update. Sydney-based O’Toole has been with Dual Australia since February 2025 having joined from Allianz as an assistant underwriter.

Marsh Asia has expanded its regional renewable energy team with the appointments of Dalton Sze and Denise Yong as assistant vice presidents. Singapore-based Sze was most recently an operational risk manager at energy and urban solutions provider Sembcorp Industries, where he worked for nearly three years. Meanwhile, Yong relocated back to Singapore from London, where she spent three years as a facultative reinsurance broker at Guy Carpenter.
