Aon Re, Allianz, Howden, Marsh, MS Amlin: 9 APAC insurance people moves of the week

InsuranceAsia News wraps up the people moves from the insurance industry in Asia this week.
1. Aon Re names Asia CEO in regional leadership rejig
Aon has appointed Soeren Soltysiak as Asia CEO of reinsurance solutions, effective from April 1, along with a raft of new regional leaders.
Alongside Soltysiak’s appointment, Aon also named head of Southeast Asia reinsurance solutions Musa Adlan as managing director for Asia for its reinsurance solutions.
The broker also appointed Pierre Vende and Danny Alexander as co-heads of life and health reinsurance solutions.
Meanwhile, Soojin Kim and Cindy Gu have been named co-heads of retrocession APAC for reinsurance solutions; and Tom Drake has been named chairman of reinsurance solutions specialty for APAC.

2. Howden India appoints chief business officer
Howden has appointed Saurabh Verma as chief business officer for its India operations. Verma, who has nearly 25 years of experience, will be in charge of promoting regional growth and strengthening client connections.
Meanwhile, Howden Insurance Brokers Australia has appointed Michael Herron as head of specialty, based in Sydney. Herron spent the last six months on gardening leave after being with Gallagher for more than seven years, most recently as managing director, specialisms for over a year and previously as national head for professional and financial risks.

3. Guy Carpenter names head of distribution for APAC
Reinsurance broker Guy Carpenter has appointed Stella Geng (pictured) as head of distribution for Asia Pacific. Hong Kong-based Geng has been at the reinsurance broker for about 16 years, most recently as head of climate solutions for Asia Pacific, a role she has held since September 2023.

4. Chubb promotes senior Hong Kong trio
Chubb has announced three senior promotions in Hong Kong. Patrick Wong has been promoted to head of the global client executive practice, and will serve as the single point of contact for the insurer’s large global clients in Hong Kong. Queency Chau, in turn, has replaced Patrick Wong as the head of the major accounts division. Meanwhile, Chubb has also appointed Barry Yu as its head of marine.

5. Marsh Japan promotes new corporate, commercial leader
Keisuke Miura has been promoted to corporate and commercial leader for Marsh Japan. Miura will relocate from Singapore to Tokyo.
Meanwhile, Riddhiman Kundu has been promoted to senior vice president at Marsh India. Mumbai-based Kundu has been with Marsh for over 10 years, most recently as executive vice president handling large global programs and reinsurance placements.

6. MS Amlin expands in Australia with Sydney office, appoints head of ANZ
Lloyd’s global (re)insurer MS Amlin has opened a new Sydney branch for its APAC reinsurance business to support the growing proportion of risks stemming from Australia and New Zealand, subject to Lloyd’s approval, according to a press release. The new office will be led by Matt Botfield (pictured), who joins the carrier as head of Australia and New Zealand from Aon Reinsurance China.

7. WTW’s James Wong joins Oneglobal
Oneglobal has appointed James Wong as its new head of client services. Singapore-based Wong will lead the insurance broker’s general lines of business and establish risk advisory services, bringing expertise to enhance its offerings. Wong was most recently at WTW, where he was director for strategic risk consulting for almost eight years. Wong was also CEO and member of the board of Seadrif Insurance, representing WTW, which was Seadrif’s insurance manager.

8. Korean broker Wise boosts reinsurance team
Drew Yoo has joined the reinsurance team at South Korean broker Wise Insurance Services. Seoul-based Yoo previously worked for HIS Korea for over three and a half years as a treaty broker.

9. Allianz Commercial makes moves in Asia, Australia
Allianz Commercial Asia has appointed Will Slade (pictured) as head of portfolio solutions, effective from March 19. Singapore-based Slade will assume the new role in addition to his current responsibility as a key relationship manager.
Meanwhile, Allianz Commercial Australia has promoted John Whealans to head of broker partnerships. Since joining Allianz in 2020, Sydney-based Whealans has held several roles within the commercial team,
