Allianz poaches Salem from AIGFebruary 28 2019 by Andrew Tjaardstra
Allianz Asia has appointed Claudia Salem as chief executive of property and casualty for Asia Pacific.
She makes the switch from her role as chief executive for Singapore and head of South-East Asia at AIG. Salem has worked at AIG since 2003 in New York, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
From March 1, Salem (pictured) will become responsible for P&L and functional development of Allianz’s P&C business in the region, including the pan-regional bancassurance relationship with Standard Chartered Bank. Total revenues in the P&C business rose by 11% to €882 million (around US$1 billion) in 2018.
Based in the Singapore office, Salem will report to Allianz Asia-Pacific’s regional chief executive George Sartorel. After Sartorel’s retirement at the end of April, she will report to his replacement Solmaz Altin, former group chief digital officer for Asia and currently deputy regional chief executive at the German insurer’s Asia operation.
Salem will also serve as a member of the Allianz Asia-Pacific regional executive board.
Sartorel commented: “[Salem] is an accomplished leader with extensive insurance and management experience, and she will be a great asset for Allianz as we continue to drive stronger growth and profitability in the region.”
