AIG has named Tom Bolt as chief underwriting officer for general insurance, effective in January.

Bolt, who will join AIG from Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance where he was CEO for the UK and Southern Europe, will report to Peter Zaffino, AIG CEO, general insurance, and will join the general insurance executive leadership team.

In a statement, AIG said Bolt will be responsible for developing a global framework for underwriting standards, authority, and structure that are aligned with AIG’s overall risk appetite.

Zaffino said Bolt will bring strong discipline to AIG’s underwriting and pricing decisions and will play a key role in building AIG’s data and analytical capabilities to empower the company’s underwriters.

Bolt spent 25 years at Berkshire Hathaway in a variety of senior executive roles before joining Lloyd’s.
