InsuranceAsia News wraps up the people moves from the insurance industry in Asia this week.
1. Marsh names new Asean, Singapore CEOs, Japan-rebranded agency lead
Marsh has promoted Thailand chief executive Derek Heng to Asean CEO, effective from Thursday.
Peta Latimer has also been appointed CEO of Marsh Singapore, adding the role to her existing responsibilities as president of Marsh’s people and investments business in Asia.
The appointments follow the departure of Godelieve van Dooren, Marsh’s former chief executive for Southeast Asia and Singapore, who is joining aon.
Marsh also announced the appointment of Hiroyuki Hata as president and representative director of EMIS, Eneos Insurance Service and Eneos Material Trading’s insurance agency business in Japan, which will now operate as part of Marsh Japan
Hata’s appointment is effective immediately. He joined Marsh Japan in 2026 as an integration officer.

2. Great Eastern appoints former Allianz Singapore CEO as MD of general and group insurance
Singaporean insurer Great Eastern has named veteran Allianz executive Hicham Raissi as managing director and group head of general and group insurance.
He has joined Great Eastern after more than 15 years at Allianz, where he had been the Singapore CEO since July 2019.

3. Allianz Singapore appoints new CEO
Allianz Insurance Singapore has named Bi Ying Ong as its new CEO, replacing Hicham Raissi following his move to Great Eastern.
Ong has been with Allianz since December 2019 and has been promoted from her most recent role as chief operating officer, a role she had held since July 2023. Her appointment is effective from Thursday.

4. Simon Global names CEO, treaty head for newly-launched reinsurance broker
Simon Oh, group chief executive officer of SG Group, will serve as chief executive officer of SG Re, Simon Global’s newly launched reinsurance broker based in Singapore.
SG Re’s treaty reinsurance operations will be led by chief broking officer Hee Sook.
Based in Singapore, Sook is responsible for developing SG Re’s treaty portfolio and strengthening relationships with cedents, reinsurers and international broking partners.
SG Re has also strengthened its actuarial and analytics capabilities with the support of chief analytics counsel David Maneval, who brings more than 20 years of experience across the global insurance and reinsurance industry

5. Markel appoints Southeast Asia MD, strengthens APAC renewables push with hire
Markel has named Kevin Leung as managing director for Southeast Asia.
As part of the newly created role, Leung will oversee Markel’s recently unified operations in Singapore and Malaysia, and oversee the specialty insurer’s growth across the region.
Markel has expanded its Singapore energy platform with the appointment of Rob Jones as a sustainable energy and power underwriter, according to a statement on Thursday.
Jones has relocated from London to Singapore to take up his new role and will be responsible for driving the growth of Markel’s renewables and power book across Asia Pacific.

6. Berajaya Sompo taps head of liability 
Berajaya Sompo Insurance, Sompo’s Malaysian joint venture, has named Sheyna Marie Janz as head of liability.
Janz will be responsible for strengthening the insurer’s commercial liability portfolio.

7. Aon makes multiple appointments across Asia
Aon Indonesia has appointed Shinta Kusdya as its head of sales for commercial risk.
Jakarta-based Kusdya brings over 15 years of experience across insurance broking, general insurance, and financial lines.
Aon has strengthened its Japan global solutions (JGS) team with two appointments – Naoki Kido as global head, effective from Wednesday, and Yuki Tanemura as global chief commercial officer and head of North America, effective January 1.
Kido will be based in Tokyo and report to Craig Torgius, chief client officer and head of enterprise clients, Asia Pacific. Tanemura will be based in Chicago and report to Kido.
Aon has appointed Minwoo Yoon as regional director on its Asia transaction solutions team.
Based in Singapore, Yoon will lead the expansion of the global broker’s tax liability insurance practice across the region.

8. Chaucer hires veteran as property direct, facultative underwriter
China Re-owned Lloyd’s carrier Chaucer has added Victoria Tan to its underwriting team in Singapore.
Bringing more than 30 years of international property underwriting and portfolio management experience, Victoria has held various senior leadership roles earlier in her career.

9. Coface moves North America claims head to Singapore as head of risk underwriting for APAC
Trade credit insurer Coface has appointed Zach Spencer as head of risk underwriting for Asia Pacific, effective from Thursday.
Spencer will relocate from Toronto, where he currently serves as Coface’s North America head of claims and debt collection, to Singapore.

10. Protec General Insurance appoints COO
M Pallonji-backed general insurer Protec General Insurance has appointed Dipankar Saikia as chief operating officer.
With over 35 years of experience across general and health insurance, Delhi-based Saikia brings a blend of insurance expertise, business leadership and technology acumen to ProTec.

11. AIG names head of commercial property in Japan
AIG has appointed Keiichi Ishida as head of commercial property for Japan.
Ishida, who has relocated back to Tokyo, joins from Everest, where he spent the last two years as head of Japan, based in Singapore.

12. Arch Insurance Australia elevates regional manager to head of casualty 
Arch Insurance Australia has promoted Andrew Whitlock to head of Australia casualty.
The appointment is a rapid promotion for Whitlock, who joined Arch in Sydney in January as casualty underwriting manager for the Northern region.

13. Steamship promotes underwriting manager to underwriting director in Singapore
P&I club Steamship Mutual has promoted Peter Jones to underwriting director in Singapore.
Jones joined the insurer a year ago as an underwriting manager, having previously worked at UK P&I as an underwriting director in Singapore for two years.

14. Envest taps Aviso COO as general manager of broker enablement
Envest Broking, the Ardonagh Group-backed Australian insurance broking network, has shifted Emma Osbourne to the new role of general manager of broker enablement.
Osbourne, who confirmed her appointment in an update on LinkedIn on Monday, has shifted from Aviso Group, where she had been chief operating officer.

15. Frontier Global Underwriting appoints senior financial lines underwriter
Specialist Australian financial lines MGA Frontier Global Underwriting has named Lindsay Smart as a senior cyber and financial lines underwriter covering Australia and New Zealand.
Melbourne-based Smart has more than a decade of experience in the insurance industry. She has joined Frontier Global Underwriting from Scott Winton, where she was a senior financial lines account manager.

Axa XL has promoted Thomas Gotting to chief client and distribution officer for APAC and Europe. Gotting, who is based in Cologne, will lead Axa XL’s client and distribution strategy across Europe, Asia and Australia.
Gallagher has promoted John Li to national practice leader, covering Asia Pacific. Li, who is based in Perth, told InsuranceAsia news that the role will focus on driving growth in hard-to-place corporate and specialty risks across the APAC region.
Singaporean composite insurer Income Insurance has named Khoo Kah Siang as its CEO, succeeding Andrew Yeo, who stepped down last month. Khoo will assume his new position on January 23, subject to regulatory approval by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), while Yeo will continue to lead the business until December 31.
