Amwins, Guy Carpenter, Markel, Allianz: 13 APAC insurance people moves of the week

InsuranceAsia News wraps up the people moves from the insurance industry in Asia this week.

1. Ex-Steadfast COO to steer Amwins’ Australasian underwriting business

Former Steadfast Group chief operating officer Nigel Fitzgerald will head Amwins’ Australasian entity, which is set to acquire all standalone underwriting businesses from Steadfast as part of the consortium’s takeover of the Australian broking group.

Fitzgerald, who left Steadfast in July 2025 to launch insurtech MGA Kaibridge, will remain associated with the startup as executive director, with co-founder and CEO Grant Cairns continuing to lead Kaibridge.

2. Guy Carpenter elevates capital advisory leader to Pacific CEO

Marsh’s reinsurance broking unit Guy Carpenter has appointed Justin Ward as its CEO of Pacific, effective immediately.

Ward most recently served as capital advisory leader for Asia Pacific from 2024 and will continue in this role until July 2027.

3. Markel underwriter to depart firm after three years

Hong Kong-based underwriter Tina Cheung is leaving Markel International after three years with the specialty insurer, InsuranceAsia News can reveal.

Cheung has been an underwriter at Markel since August 2023, specialising in fintech, digital assets, tech PI, cyber, financial institutions, D&O and commercial crime

4. Allianz Thailand announces leadership succession with current country head set to retire

Allianz Ayudhya, the Thai arm of the German insurer, has announced a series of senior leadership changes, with Lars Heibutzki set to succeed Thomas Wilson as Thailand country manager and CEO of the life and health business.

Sanghun Park, meanwhile, will replace Heibutzki as CEO of the general insurance business, with all the moves effective from January 1. 

Before joining Allianz Thailand, Heibutzki had held regional leadership roles in distribution and P&C across Asia Pacific and previously held roles at Allianz Italy and Allianz SE.

Park, meanwhile, will join Allianz Ayudhya on October 1 as deputy CEO of Allianz Ayudhya General Insurance.

5. MSIG Hong Kong names new CUO

MSIG Hong Kong has appointed Billy Wong as its new chief underwriting officer.

Wong brings nearly two decades of insurance expertise across retail and commercial lines, and will lead MSIG’s underwriting department and specialty lines to further strengthen the firm’s underwriting capabilities, enhance portfolio performance, and deliver even greater value to its customers and business partners.

6. New Lloyd’s-backed MGA Angel Underwriting taps first head of underwriting

Aaron Whiteley has joined Angel Underwriting as the new Australian MGA’s inaugural head of underwriting.

He confirmed separately to InsuranceAsia News that he is the first underwriting hire for the newly launched Lloyd’s-backed MGA, and from Liberty Specialty Markets, where he was a construction and engineering underwriter from November 2023.

7. Chubb shifts ex-Malaysia head to country president for New Zealand

Chubb has named Jon Longmore as its country president of New Zealand, effective from September.

In his new role, he will be based in Auckland, and will take charge of Chubb’s general insurance business in New Zealand, which includes commercial P&C, personal lines and accident and health.

8. Victor Australia appoints head of casualty

Victor Australia, an underwriting agency and authorised representative of Marsh, has appointed Danial Mullin as its head of casualty.

He most recently spent over three years at Guild Insurance as a client partnership executive.

9. AIG promotes APAC middle market leader to Thailand trade credit head

AIG has promoted deputy head of middle market for APAC, Pongprat Suwan, to Thailand country head for trade credit.

Bangkok-based Suwan will lead underwriting and operational strategies, oversee the overall commercial and underwriting priorities, including distribution, partnerships, and business development.

10. McLarens Australia appoints executive loss adjuster

McLarens Australia has appointed Andy Donnelly as an executive loss adjuster, based in Melbourne.

Donnelly brings more than 25 years’ experience in commercial property loss adjusting, including over 15 years focused on major and complex claims.

11. Lockton names cargo and logistics assistant vice president in Singapore

Singapore-based Jocelyn Lee has joined Lockton as an assistant vice president for cargo and logistics at Lockton.

Lee was most recently a marine underwriting manager at Starr in Thailand and Singapore.

12. Sompo appoints senior financial lines underwriter for Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan

Sompo has appointed Winnie Chau as a senior financial lines underwriter for Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan.

Hong Kong-based Chau brings over 14 years of underwriting experience in financial lines, including cyber and professional indemnity.

13. Aon shifts Canada-based account executive to Asia natural resources team

Aon has tapped Harrison Willing as an associate director within its Asia natural resources team.

Willing, who has been with Aon for over three years, has relocated from Canada to Singapore to take up his new role, having formerly been an account executive based in Calgary, Alberta.

Steadfast has paused its search for a new CEO, with incumbent Robert Kelly set to remain in place to oversee the ongoing sale to the bidder consortium of Amwins, Dragoneer Investment Group, and KKR. Kelly will oversee the potential change of control transaction.
