AIG, QBE, Willis, Niyam Group: 10 APAC insurance people moves of the week

InsuranceAsia News wraps up the people moves from the insurance industry in Asia this week.

1. AIG names APAC head of energy, deputy head of commercial property and business package for Australia

AIG has promoted Tilden Goh to head of energy for Asia Pacific. 

Singapore-based Goh brings more than 32 years of underwriting experience and a strong track record of leadership across complex energy portfolios, and was most recently head of energy for Asia at AIG.

Michael Hannigan has rejoined AIG as deputy head of commercial property and business package for Australia.

Hannigan was previously with Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) for more than two and a half years, with his most recent role as national manager for corporate property.

2. QBE appoints Hong Kong property head

QBE has appointed Johnny Suen as head of property for Hong Kong.

Suen will lead QBE’s property underwriting in Hong Kong, with oversight of property risks across Macau, Taiwan and mainland China (wholesale).

3. Willis hires finex leader for Singapore

Willis has appointed Cheryl Lee as finex leader for Singapore.

Lee will lead Willis’ finex business in Singapore and oversee the day-to-day management of the team, and will report to Albert Andrew, Willis’ head of finex for Southeast Asia.

4. Niyam Group appoints director for marine, energy

India-focused reinsurer Niyam Group has appointed Ruchi Sheth as its director for marine and energy.

Sheth brings over 23 years of experience in the general insurance sector, with underwriting expertise in marine and energy, and was most recently vice president for marine insurance at Tata AIG General Insurance.

5. Howden snaps up duo to senior roles in Singapore, India

Howden has appointed Manikandan Krishnamoorthy as regional director for risk and engineering advisory.

Singapore-based Krishnamoorthy has been working at commercial property insurer FM for over 20 years, prior to joining Howden.

TS VijayaVenkateswaran has also been appointed as executive vice president for property and risk management in India.

Chennai-based VijayaVenkateswaran has over 24 years of experience in risk management, insurance practice, and claims handling across cargo, engineering, property, and liability lines.

6. Tower elevates customer care centre hubs head to newly-created COO role.

New Zealand insurer Tower has appointed Michael Skeens to the newly created position of chief operations officer, effectively immediately.

Skeens will oversee the insurer’s operational hubs, teams, systems and processes.

7. Starr names head of casualty for Hong Kong

Starr has appointed Jane Tung as head of casualty in Hong Kong.

Tung has over 20 years of experience in the insurance industry, primarily focused on casualty, and was most recently senior distribution manager at Swiss Re CorSo.

8. Lockton appoints growth, client strategy leader in Australia

Lockton has appointed Andrew Wansey as growth and client strategy leader in Australia.

Sydney-based Wansey brings more than 30 years of experience in insurance and risk advisory, including over 15 years at Marsh from 1998 to 2013.

9. Marsh Risk moves ex-first-class cricketer up the order

Marsh Risk has promoted David Wigley to head of commercial for New Zealand.

Auckland-based Wigley was previously the national growth leader since March 2024, having relocated to Auckland from London for the role.

He is a former professional cricketer, having represented multiple English county teams including Yorkshire and Northamptonshire at county level.

10. Zurich New Zealand hires head of distribution

Zurich New Zealand has appointed Alan James as head of distribution and as an assistant general manager.

James has over two decades of experience, most recently spending 17 years with AIG in London, Singapore and Auckland.
