InsuranceAsia News wraps up the people moves from the insurance industry in Asia this week.
1. Steadfast CEO and MD steps aside, appoints acting replacement
Tim Mathieson has been named Steadfast’s acting CEO, following incumbent CEO and MD Robert Kelly’s decision to temporarily step aside following an investigation into a workplace complaint.
Mathieson, who was the CEO of Australasian broking, will take charge immediately, and he will continue in the role until the conclusion of the investigation.

2. Aviso taps senior Lockton Australia manager
Australian insurance broker Aviso Group has hired Patrick Moore, according to an IAN exclusive.
Moore was most recently Lockton Australia’s general manager for growth and client strategy since October 2023.

3. MSIG appoints Aon veteran to newly created broker partnerships role
Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance and MSIG Asia (collectively “MSIG”) have appointed Eric Schaap as senior vice president and global broker engagement manager.
Schaap worked at Aon for 25 years, from 1999 to 2024, holding several positions in different Aon businesses.

4. UIB Asia Reinsurance Brokers names new treaty, retro director
Serene Chiam has been named UIB Asia Reinsurance Brokers’ director for broking support in its treaty and retro division.
Singapore-based Chiam joins from MSIG Singapore, where she had worked since November 2022.
5. Canopius appoints APAC COO, expands Australian casualty team
Canopius Group named Michelle Rudd as chief operating officer for Asia-Pacific and Vanessa Hall as casualty underwriter in Sydney.
The two appointments come as the firm looks to grow its Asia Pacific team and strengthen its operational and underwriting capabilities.
6. Sompo Asia Pacific hires new chief consumer officer for China 
Sompo Asia Pacific has appointed Leo Jun Liu as chief consumer officer for its China operations.
Shanghai-based Liu will report to Toshiya Matsuo, Sompo China CEO, and Bill Zhang, president of consumer lines at Sompo APAC.

7. GIC Re names interim chairman and managing director
GIC Re has appointed Hitesh Joshi as its interim chairman and managing director for three months.
Joshi, currently an executive director at GIC Re, will serve until a permanent appointment is made.

Global reinsurer Peak Re has tapped Korean Re veteran Eun Jeong Lee as senior vice president for retrocession. Lee relocates to Hong Kong following nearly 19 years at Korean Re.
FM has also named Calvin Kuan as client services manager for Southeast Asia. Singapore-based Kuan will provide strategic leadership for FM’s underwriting and client service teams.
