InsuranceAsia News wraps up the people moves from the insurance industry in Asia this week.

1. Sompo taps Alessa Quane as new CEO of international markets

Sompo has announced the appointment of Alessa Quane as its new CEO of international markets, subject to regulatory approval.

Effective immediately and reporting directly to Sompo P&C CEO James Shea, Quane (pictured) will be responsible for managing and overseeing Sompo’s commercial and consumer insurance operations outside of North America and Japan.

The regional management of the United Kingdom, continental Europe including Turkey, Brazil and Asia Pacific excluding Japan, will report directly to Quane.

2. Allianz Trade executive returns to Asia as Hong Kong hub CEO

Hassan Omaish has returned to Asia Pacific to become CEO of Allianz Trade for Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan.

He is due to take-up the role of CEO of Allianz Trade’s Hong Kong hub from October 1, replacing Edmond Lee, who is retiring after 12 years with the firm.

Omaish, who will report to APAC CEO Rodrigo Jiminez, has worked at Allianz Trade, the trade credit insurance arm of the German insurer, for over 15 years.

3. Ageas Re hires Asia representative amid Hong Kong expansion

Brussels-headquartered reinsurer Ageas Re has hired Matthew Tong (pictured) as its Asia representative, InsuranceAsia News (IAN) revealed. Tong will be based in Hong Kong, with the appointment effective from October.

4. Berkley Insurance Asia names head of casualty for greater China

Berkley Insurance Asia has appointed Jasmine Wan as head of casualty for greater China. Hong Kong-based Wan joins after spending over eight and a half years with QBE, most recently as a senior casualty underwriter.

5. Marsh’s head of corporate and commercial to join Gallagher Australia in March

Marsh’s head of corporate and commercial for its Pacific business, Johannes-Daniel Veldsman, is set to move to Gallagher in March, InsuranceAsia News (IAN) understands. Sydney-based Veldsman will join alongside Marsh McLennan’s Alex Lumby, who will become Gallagher Australia’s CEO.

6. Former Allianz Australia COO takes over as Honey Insurance CEO

Australian specialist home insurtech Honey Insurance has appointed David Krawitz (pictured) as its new chief executive officer, succeeding founder Richard Joffe, who is moving to the role of executive chairman. Sydney-based Krawitz steps into the position after being a board member at the firm since April 2024, he confirmed in a LinkedIn announcement.

7. CFC adds senior underwriter for APAC transaction liability team

Cyber specialist MGA CFC have appointed Danton Stoloff as senior underwriter for its Asia Pacific M&A transaction liability team. Sydney-based Stoloff joins following five years at Marsh, where he last held the position of vice president for digital, senior operations and strategy leader for Pacific since January 2024.

8. Aon hires claims advocacy director in Singapore

Aon has appointed Vincent Chow as claims advocacy director in Singapore. Prior to joining the global broker, Chow was with law firm Kennedys, most recently as of counsel.

Aon has also appointed a former United Semiconductor Japan lawyer Milla Chen as a deputy director within its Japanese transaction liability business.

9. Miller bolsters Singapore team with UIB hire

Specialty (re)insurance broker Miller has appointed Tam Hui Von as a reinsurance broker in its Singapore team. Tam has over a decade of experience in facultative and treaty reinsurance, and specialty construction risks, the intermediary said.

AIG Australia has appointed Siân Mullane as a senior property underwrite, while Bin-Hao Nah has been appointed as the new section head for marine cargo at China Taiping Insurance in Singapore.

Crawford Australia, meanwhile, has announced the appointments of Julio Agati and Ujjwal Gurung as strata external claims adjusters.
