Lockton, Marsh, Munich Re, QBE, Knightcorp: 24 APAC insurance people moves of the week

InsuranceAsia News wraps up the people moves from the insurance industry in Asia this week.
1. BMS’ Asia CEO heads to Lockton, reshuffles APAC teams
BMS’ Asia CEO Sandra Lee has been made redundant and is expected to join Lockton in a senior role, according to market sources.
Lee joined BMS as Asia CEO in June 2021, having previously spent nearly nine years at Aon, where she most recently served as Asia head of transaction liability insurance.
BMS has closed its Hong Kong office and exited its regional private equity, M&A and tax (PEMAT) practice, the broker confirmed to InsuranceAsia News.
Lockton has hired ex-BMS executive Sam Suen as managing director for Asia emerging risks.
Suen was formerly head of Asia affinity and emerging risk at BMS Group in Hong Kong from November 2024 until May.
The broker announced the appointment of Siva Thangavelu as COO of Lockton Sime Malaysia.
Siva was most recently head of strategy and operation and centre of expertise lead within operational resilience and governance at Swiss Re in Malaysia.
Lockton also appointed AnnMarie Rodgers as national head of corporate in Australia, “focusing on the upper middle market.”
Rodgers joins from Marsh, where she worked for over 31 years and was most recently managing director, client engagement leader for Pacific.

2. Marsh hires former AIG cyber head in senior financial lines role, SVP for credit specialities in Japan
Christopher Cheung is set to rejoin Marsh in Hong Kong this month in a senior role focused on financial professional lines, InsuranceAsia News understands.
Cheung, who left AIG earlier this year, is set to be appointed as finpro Asia regional digital assets and Hong Kong growth leader.
Marsh Japan has also appointed Kazutoyo Kobayashi as a senior vice president for the credit specialties team.
Tokyo-based Kobayashi brings extensive experience in credit and political risk insurance, having worked in various market-leading insurance and reinsurance companies in Japan.

3. Munich Re appoints Asia cyber leaders, Australia property, construction and engineering manager
Munich Re has appointed Marco Petrovic as head of cyber for Asia (excluding greater China), while Johanna Roman will lead the business in Australasia, greater China and Africa.
Petrovic, who joined Munich Re in 2005, has held a range of roles across casualty and cyber underwriting, as well as business development most recently as lead for the reinsurer’s cyber operations across Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa from Munich.
Roman, based in Sydney, will assume her new role from July 1. She has more than 20 years of reinsurance experience across purchasing, claims and underwriting, and joined Munich Re in 2022 as casualty and cyber underwriting manager for Australasia.
The German reinsurer also hired Bob Algie as part of the buildout of its specialty division in Australia.
Algie will join the German reinsurer in the second half of the year from QBE Insurance in Sydney. He has been with the Australian insurer for over eight years and has been head of property, energy and marine since March last year.

4. QBE names head for dual underwriting, people risk roles for HK and Macau
QBE has appointed Andy Tsui as head of underwriting, corporate, for Hong Kong and Macau, and Asia head of people risk, effective from Monday.
Tsui will hold local underwriting authority across all corporate product lines and work closely with both the regional chief underwriting officer office and product heads to oversee underwriting performance, operations and strategy

5. Australian broker Knightcorp boosts leadership with double move
Australian broker Knightcorp has strengthened its leadership across enterprise, specialty, and corporate broking with the appointment of Andrew Dawson as head of enterprise and specialty and Craig Anderson joins as corporate manager.
Dawson brings more than 20 years of experience, and will lead the enterprise and specialty division, with responsibility spanning large, complex and multinational programs, as well as financial lines and people and workplace risk.
Anderson, meanwhile, also brings more than 20 years of experience across corporate, SME and affinity portfolios, and previously held senior leadership roles within the Austbrokers network, most recently overseeing the SME and affinity divisions.

6. Generali GC&C hires head of business development
Generali Global Corporate and Commercial (GC&C) has appointed Singapore-based Kai Ao as head of business development.
In his new role, Ao will focus on further accelerating the insurer’s business development strategy across Asia.

7. Allianz Commercial appoints property lead as part of Japan build out
Allianz Commercial has hired Masahide Naito from AIG as head of property for Japan.
Tokyo-based Naito joins the wholesale carrier after more than four years at AIG, where he had served as head of commercial property for Japan since June 2024.

8. Aon reshuffles to Australia, Thailand, Indonesia teams
Aon has appointed Frank Lampert as client director within the global and corporate team in Australia.
Brisbane-based Lampert rejoins Aon from Marsh Risk, where he had been managing principal for risk management since 2024.
Aon Reinsurance Solutions has added two former Lockton brokers, Chettanart Boonphayoong and Yawapa Thiamthom, as directors.
Boonphayoong was at US broker Lockton for last 17 years and was a senior department manager for reinsurance.
Thiamthom, meanwhile, was at Lockton for almost 22 years and was most recently senior division manager for reinsurance.
The broker has also appointed Herlina Surya as a strategic adviser for power in Indonesia.
Surya joins Aon from Marsh, where she spent the last 15 years managing all insurance servicing related issues with a focus on major accounts such as risks associated with power, utility, mining, industrial and infrastructure.

9. Howden names multinational client practice director
Howden has appointed Kyle Ng as director of its multinational client practice.
Hong Kong-based Ng joins from WTW, where he had been a director for property and casualty since November.

10. Toa Re makes changes to Japan, Singapore leadership
Toa Reinsurance has made changes to its leadership positions in Japan and Singapore, with Masahiro Yamada appointed as the managing director for Japan, while Ryo Yokochi has been appointed as chief executive officer for the reinsurer’s Singapore branch.
Yamada was previously director and general manager of non-life underwriting and planning, and succeeds the retiring Hironori Ashikawa.
Yokochi replaces Shiko Misono, who will move into the role of general manager for Toa Re’s international departments.

11. Markel appoints lead for new Australian fine art and specie offering
Markel has appointed Matthew Stock as head of fine art and specie in Australia, with immediate effect.
The appointment marks the launch of Markel’s fine art and specie offering in the country, addressing complex risks across the full suite of fine art products, including personal collections, jewellery collectors, corporate collectors, dealers and galleries specie, jewellers’ block and cash in transit.

12. Mapfre Re appoints head of India branch
Mapfre Re has appointed Chaturbhuj Bansal as head of its India Branch.
Bansal (pictured) brings over 16 years of experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry across underwriting and risk management, with a strong background in the Indian and Asia-Pacific markets, and will be based in the Spanish reinsurer’s Gujarat International Finance Tech-City (Gift City) branch.

13. Aviso Specialty expands M&A practice with trio of senior appointments
Australian insurance broker Aviso Specialty has announced the continued expansion of its M&A insurance practice with the appointments of Dmitry Yatsenko in Melbourne, Kurt Michl in Sydney and Peter Gold in Brisbane.
Yatsenko and Sydney-based Michl join from transactional risk advisory roles, including senior positions at Marsh, and Gold arrives from Marsh with 13 years of M&A and specialty insurance experience.
The appointments add senior depth across warranty and indemnity, tax liability, due diligence and claims, the post added.
In addition to his role within the team, Gold will drive growth across Aviso Specialty’s evolving M&A, credit and financial lines capabilities, supporting a more coordinated transaction offering for clients and their advisers.

14. Gallagher Australia names chief client officer, hires lead for faith specialty practice
Gallagher Australia has tapped Blake Gleeson as chief client officer.
“This newly created role reflects Gallagher’s focus on strengthening client experience and delivering greater consistency across sectors as the business continues to grow nationally,” Gallagher said.
Charlotte Jolly has been appointed practice leader for Gallagher Australia’s faith specialty, effective from Monday.
Melbourne-based Jolly joins from Marsh, where she had been the national head of claims for its faith and education practice since April 2024.

15. Willis taps director in India to bolster Asia M&A practice 
Willis has appointed Mumbai-based Chintan Aashwini as a director for its Asia mergers and acquisitions team.
He brings nine years of experience across M&A, private equity and complex transaction advisory, having previously worked with Indian law firms including Khaitan & Co and AZB & Partners, and was most recently with Indian law firm Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co, where he was a senior associate.

16. Coface appoints AIG APAC trade credit head in double leadership role
Trade credit insurer Coface has appointed James Yau as head of commercial for Southeast Asia and head of mid-market for Asia.
He previously spent nearly five years at Coface, joining their Hong Kong branch as region head of account management for Asia Pacific in September 2015, before moving to Singapore as regional head of sales in September 2017. He left Coface for AIG in May 2020.

17. Allianz Trade names Hong Kong distribution lead
Allianz Trade has appointed Ricky Hung as head of distribution in Hong Kong.
In his new role, Hung will lead Allianz Trade’s business development strategy in Hong Kong, deepen client engagement and accelerate growth across the firm’s commercial portfolio.

18. Specialist Risk Group hires principal for credit, political risk in Asia
Specialty broker Specialist Risk Group (SRG) has appointed Lee Zong Wen as principal for credit and political risk in Asia within its Singapore team, effective from July 6.
With extensive experience advising banks, funds and corporates on complex structured and trade finance transactions, Lee brings deep market expertise and a strong track record developed across JLT, Markel and WTW.

19. Miramar Group taps head of financial lines, tailored risk
Miramar Group has tapped Kerry Thom as head of financial lines and tailored risk.
Melbourne-based Thom has joined Miramar Group from AIG, where he was a senior casualty underwriter within the US insurer’s major accounts practice.

20. Samsung Re promotes senior underwriter to head of Southeast Asia facultative property
Samsung Re, a subsidiary of Korean carrier Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, has promoted Adi Salleh to head of Southeast Asia facultative property, effective from Monday.
Singapore-based Salleh rejoined Samsung Re in January 2025 as senior underwriter for property, power and energy, having previously worked at Samsung Fire & Marine for nine years until January 2023, which included just over five years as an underwriter for inward facultative reinsurance for Samsung Re.

21. Coastal Marine hires APAC cargo underwriter
MGA Coastal Marine has appointed Eric Chan as a cargo underwriter for Asia Pacific, effective from Monday.
Hong Kong-based Chan brings nearly four decades of insurance industry experience, with expertise spanning underwriting strategy, portfolio development and navigating complex risk environments.

22. PSC Insurance Brokers New Zealand promotes team leader to head of personal lines
PSC Insurance Brokers New Zealand has promoted Carol Cooper to head of personal lines.
Auckland-based Cooper joined PSC in December 2022, most recently as team leader for personal lines, and has also worked at Rothbury Insurance Brokers and Neville Newcomb Insurance Brokers.

Ding Xiangqun, the former chairperson of the People’s Insurance Company of China (PICC), has been appointed as the new head of the National Financial Regulatory Administration (NFRA). She succeeds Li Yunze, who had served as the first head of the NFRA, and relinquished her roles as executive director and chairperson of the board for insurer PICC.
India’s Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB) has selected Lavanya Mundayur, chairman and managing director (CMD) of the Agriculture Insurance Company, as the new head of New India Assurance (NIA), the country’s largest general insurer. The FSIB had interviewed six candidates on Thursday and chose Mundayur, currently the youngest CMD in the public sector undertaking general insurance industry, for the post.
