Peak Re, Suncorp, Allianz Jio Re, Aon, Lockton: 15 APAC insurance people moves of the week

InsuranceAsia News wraps up the people moves from the insurance industry in Asia this week.

1. Peak Re taps Swiss Re Asia head as CEO

Peak Reinsurance Company (Peak Re) has appointed former Swiss Re CEO Victor Kuk as the chief executive officer, succeeding co-founder Franz-Josef Hahn as part of a leadership transition.

Kuk will assume the role of CEO of the Hong Kong-based reinsurer effective from April 20, subject to regulatory approval.

Hahn will assume the position of special adviser, continuing to provide strategic oversight until October 9.

Kuk joins Peak Re from Swiss Re, where he served as CEO of Swiss Re Asia and was also the head of P&C reinsurance market unit.

2. Suncorp appoints acting CEO

Jeremy Robson has been named as Suncorp’s acting CEO as Steve Johnston takes a temporary leave of absence while he recovers from a medical procedure.

Robson has been CFO of Suncorp since December 2019. During his stint as acting CEO, Neil Wesley will serve as acting CFO.

3. Allianz Jio Re JV begins operation, names CEO

Allianz Jio Reinsurance, the new reinsurance joint venture between Allianz Group and Jio Financial Services (JFSL), has appointed Sonia Rawal as CEO.

Rawal joins from Allianz Reinsurance in Singapore, where she was most recently responsible for the India and Asean markets.

The JV received regulatory approval to begin underwriting reinsurance in India on Thursday.

4. Aon promotes ‘go‑to broker’ to APAC MD, taps Australia head of cyber solutions

Aon has promoted Anita Vivekananda to managing director of transaction solutions for APAC.

Sydney-based Vivekananda has been with Aon for over a decade and has been the Pacific head of transaction solutions since March 2024.

The broker also named Chubb’s Quinton Kotze as head of cyber solutions for Australia.

Kotze, also based in Sydney, will join Aon in May following 13 years with Chubb.

5. Lockton makes double hire for Pacific team

Lockton has appointed Glenn Preece as Pacific growth leader and Sare Ozkara as head of market strategy, engagement, and portfolio solutions for the Pacific.

Sydney-based Preece, who joined Lockton Pacific in late 2025, brings nearly four decades of experience in insurance, risk management, and strategic business advisory.

Ozkara, who is based in Sydney, commenced her role on March 2. She is a seasoned insurance distribution executive with over 15 years of experience leading national broker partnerships across general and life insurance.

6. Sompo appoints CEO for Malaysia P&C arm

Soo Wai Har has been named as the new chief executive officer of Berjaya Sompo Insurance, the carrier’s P&C insurance business in Malaysia.

Kuala Lumpur-based Soo joins from Generali Malaysia, will take over from Tan Sek Kee, who will retire after nine years with the firm, effective from April 1.

7. Malaysia’s Pacific Insurance names new CEO

Kuala Lumpur-headquartered The Pacific Insurance (TPIB) has appointed Florence Chang as CEO, from Tuesday.

Chang brings over 25 years of leadership experience in the general insurance industry, with extensive expertise across underwriting, broking, agency development, bancassurance, and reinsurance.

8. Berkley Insurance Asia reshuffles Asia marine leadership

Berkley Insurance Asia has reshuffled the leadership of its Asia marine business, with Kenneth Cheong appointed as its new head of marine for the region.

Cheong has been deputy head of marine Asia at Berkley since September, replaces Ju-An Lee, who is shifting to the newly created role of senior advisory and talent development leader.

9. XS Global hires head of construction underwriting for APAC

US-headquartered MGA XS Global has appointed Daniel Abramson as head of construction underwriting for APAC, based in Hong Kong.

Abramson had previously worked at AIG for 17 years, leading and developing large-scale portfolios, including managing the insurer’s US$300 million global construction business across multiple markets, including Singapore and Bangkok.

10. Markel launches W&I offering in Asia with key hires in Hong Kong, India

Markel has hired Siddick Khan as a senior W&I underwriter in Hong Kong and Shubhi Nigam as an underwriter in India for its newly launched warranty and indemnity (W&I) insurance offering in Asia Pacific.

Khan, who joins from Aon, will focus on Singapore, Hong Kong and other key markets in APAC.

Mumbai-based Nigam, meanwhile, joins as the first W&I underwriter in India and will focus exclusively on the Indian market.

Marcus Piristi has joined Marsh as head of energy for the Pacific region.

Adelaide-based Piristi joins following nearly 13 years in global and corporate client roles at Aon.

12. Willis appoints finex leader for Southeast Asia

Willis has appointed Albert Andrew as finex leader for Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam.

Andrew was most recently WTW’s finex facultative leader for Southeast Asia, a role he had been holding for over a year.

Howden New Zealand has appointed Mark Kenyon as a partner for its broking team in Wellington.

Kenyon brings more than three decades of experience in leadership, complex claims and advisory roles.

14. New Zealand’s Ando taps head of marine

New Zealand MGA Ando has hired Mike Bodman as its head of marine.

With over 20 years’ experience in marine insurance, Auckland-based Bodman previously held leadership roles at AIG across the US, spanning underwriting, strategy and distribution.

15. Talbot hires property underwriter in Singapore

AIG-backed Lloyd’s syndicate Talbot has added Grace Yeap to its property team as an underwriter.

Singapore-based Yeap was most recently an underwriter at Axa XL, where she worked for two and a half years, specialising in crisis management and special risks.

Other moves you may have missed

Kiwi insurer Tower has appointed Simon Hoole as its interim CFO, effective from May 1, subject to satisfactory completion of regulatory requirements. Hoole replaces Angus Shelton, who will commence a period of planned extended leave from May 1, having served as interim CFO since February 2025.

Bobby Swarup-led Niyam Group has appointed former GIC Re chairman and managing director Devesh Srivastava as chairman. The group received approval from Lloyd’s of London for Syndicate 2047, granting permission for it to begin underwriting from April 1.

Zhang Daoming is set to officially become president of the People’s Insurance Company of China (PICC), according to a report from Chinese media group Caixin. Zhang, who had been the temporary responsible officer since December, will fill the role that has been vacant for four months.
