Lloyd’s, Willis, Aon, XS Global, Miller: 11 APAC insurance people moves of the week

InsuranceAsia News wraps up the people moves from the insurance industry in Asia this week.

1. APAC regional director to leave Lloyd’s in 2026 to pursue new opportunities

Lloyd’s regional director for Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa (APMEA) will leave the UK exchange in 2026 to pursue new opportunities.

Chris Mackinnon is due to leave Lloyd’s in April after over a decade working for the firm in Australia and Singapore, a spokesperson for Lloyd’s confirmed.

Mackinnon has been head of APMEA at Lloyd’s since March, and previously served as deputy regional director for the region from April 2023 to March 2024.

2. Willis promotes Pacific head of broking

Willis has promoted an insider Ollie Moore to head of broking for the Pacific region, effective immediately. In his new role, Moore’s responsibilities include “enhancing Willis’ broking strategy, driving innovation and strengthening partnerships with its insurer network.”

Global broker WTW, meanwhile, has appointed Singapore-based Carrie Tan as division director in its terrorism, and political violence team.

3. Aon names power specialty director for Asia, client leader in Japan

Aon Global Risk Consulting has appointed Koachakorn Panyangam (pictured) as its new director for power specialty in Asia.

Aon has also appointed Shinji Kuriyama as enterprise client leader for Asia Pacific in Japan, effective immediately.

4. XS Global to expand into APAC, names new CEO and casualty underwriting manager

Rainmaker Group-owned MGA XS Global has named Steven Barnett as its chief executive officer and Wendy Law as Asia Pacific regional casualty underwriting manager. XS Global’s APAC arm is set to begin business operations in the near future, with the firm specialising in insurance and reinsurance underwriting.

5. Miller hires head of Japan desk in Singapore

Specialty (re)insurance broker Miller has appointed Midori Katayama as head of its Japan desk in Singapore. Katayama joins from Mitsui & Co Risk Solutions, where she served as deputy general manager, specialising in insurance risk management and reinsurance solutions.

6. HMG taps Gen Re general manager as CEO

Orchis Li (pictured) has left Gen Re to become CEO of Health Mutual Group (HMG), the Hong Kong-based provider of medical concierge services to the insurance industry. HMG said that Li has joined the firm in a “pivotal movement”. Li was general manager of Gen Re’s Hong Kong branch for over a decade, and she previously held senior roles at Generali and FWD Insurance in Hong Kong.

7. UIB Asia recruits executive director for treaty and retro

Reinsurance broker UIB Asia has appointed Le Tram Nguyen as executive director of its treaty and retrocession division. Singapore-based Nguyen will report to UIB Asia Reinsurance Brokers chief executive officer and director Francis S. Savari, and work closely with the leadership team to support UIB Asia’s growth and profitability across the region.

8. Gallagher Re appoints executive director in Taiwan

Gallagher Re has appointed Jennifer Wen as an executive director in Taiwan. With more than 30 years of experience across the reinsurance treaty markets in Taiwan and Guam, Wen brings a wealth of expertise and strong market relationships.

9. MSI strengthens Oceania leadership with 4 senior hires

Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Oceania has announced a series of senior leadership appointments to support its next phase of expansion across Australia and New Zealand, strengthening its strategic focus and operational oversight in the region.

Hajime Takeda has been named deputy general manager and chief operating officer, expanding his responsibilities after serving as COO since 2021. David Hall has been appointed chief revenue officer, overseeing growth strategy, distribution, and partnerships. Go Mandai has been named chief broker and customer officer, reflecting MSI Oceania’s focus on strengthening intermediary and customer relationships as a driver of growth. Anna Isenberg has been promoted to chief people officer, taking on expanded responsibilities for talent strategy and organisational development across the Oceania region.

10. Marsh ANZ promotes Pacific head of corporate and commercial

Marsh Australia and New Zealand has promoted Poppy Foxton (picured) to head of corporate and commercial for the Pacific region. Marsh ANZ said that Foxton “brings 16 years’ experience and will lead the mid-market practice, driving client-first solutions and market-leading insights across the Pacific”.

11. Sompo promotes Singapore head of actuarial

Sompo has promoted Li Li Leong to head of actuarial in Singapore. Leong was previously the actuarial senior manager since June 2023.

Swiss Re Corporate Solutions has appointed Anna Khomeini to its customer and distribution management (CDM) team, while Optio-backed specialty MGA Circles Group has appointed Charlie Egar as underwriting manager for assets and fine arts line.

Arete Adjusting, a third-party administrator part of +8 Partners, has expanded into Asia Pacific with the launch of its Hong Kong operation, with the company to be led by senior claims executive Yuxing Ao, a marine insurance professional.

HDI Global has appointed Kunihiko Suzuki as its new manager and senior underwriter for liability in Japan, while PVI Insurance has appointed Tien Thanh Chu and Nhu Trung Nguyen as deputy CEOs for a five-year term.

AIG-backed Lloyd’s syndicate Talbot Underwriting has named Tracy Mia Toh as its fine arts and specie underwriter for Asia Pacific.
