Representatives from 21 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec)-member economies tackled disaster risk financing and insurance initiatives implemented in the region over the past years as they acknowledged that the Asia Pacific is among the areas most vulnerable to natural disasters.
The more than 100 delegates attended a seminar on disaster risk financing and insurance policies in Nha Trang City, Vietnam, on February 21.
The delegates shared the strategies they have adopted in their respective nations in response to natural disaster risks.
They also discussed about the development of database on public property and disaster risk insurance.
The meeting also explored how members can find ways to increase experience sharing in creating natural disaster risk financing and insurance solutions, as well as to boost capacity in dealing with disaster aftermath and lessen budget expenditures and risks to government properties.
A report on the results of the meeting will soon be submitted to the Apec Finance and Central Bank Deputies’ Meeting.
