InsuranceAsia News wraps up the people moves from the insurance industry in Asia this week.

1. Howden folds India business into Asia division

Howden India will move into Howden’s Asia region under regional CEO Rohan Bhappu from April 1, while Amit Agarwal continues as CEO of India.

Paul Redgate has been appointed chairman of Howden India.

Howden has also made appointments in their American, Latin America and Carribbean and EMEA teams.

2. Aviso Specialty appoints ex-Marsh Pacific president as CEO

Envest-backed broker Aviso Specialty has appointed former Marsh Pacific president Josh Roach as CEO.

Former Lockton Pacific CEO Paul Marsden will also join the company as executive director of broking.

3. Price Forbes boosts newly formed treaty reinsurance team in Singapore

Price Forbes Singapore has announced three senior appointments – Goh Thian Leong, Mark Foster and Florence Lam Puoy Yin – to its newly formed treaty reinsurance team in Singapore with immediate effect.

Goh joins as head of specialty, Foster, meanwhile, joins as head of treaty, and Yin joins as director of specialty.

4. QBE launches transaction liability practice in Asia, appoints lead

QBE has launched transaction liability insurance (TLI) practice in Asia with the appointment of Willis’ Reuben Lee as transactional liability lead for Asia.

In this newly created role, Lee will provide strategic direction for underwriting the portfolio in Asia and focus on growth and risk management in the M&A insurance space.

5. Delta Insurance Group names interim CEO

Australian MGA Delta Insurance Group has named Teresa Pollard as its interim CEO.

Pollard takes over from Kent Chaplin, who has led Delta for the last seven years.

6. Sompo hires financial lines lead for Singapore, taps senior casualty underwriter in Hong Kong

Sompo has hired Francis Lim as its financial lines lead for Singapore.

Lim has over 24 years of experience in financial lines underwriting.

The insurer also added Alice Sun to its casualty underwriting team covering Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

Sun joins Sompo from Allianz Commercial, where she was a senior underwriter in Hong Kong.

7. Market Lane revamps Australia leadership, underwriting teams

Australian MGA Market Lane Insurance Group has announced several appointments within its Australian leadership and underwriting team, including naming managing director David Porteous as CEO.

Toby Salmon has been promoted to managing director and deputy chief executive officer, while Shane Golding has been elevated to managing director and group head of casualty.

Matthew Porteous, meanwhile, has also been appointed as a managing director and group head of engagement and strategy.

8. QBE Re takes Aspen senior underwriter as Southeast Asia head

QBE Re has appointed Soichiro Tanaka as its head of Southeast Asia.

He will be based in Singapore, reporting directly to Cindy Foo, head of treaty in Asia.

9. HDI Global adds senior underwriting trio to Singapore team

Tecky Liu, Edward Leong and Serena Lee have joined HDI Global this month in Singapore.

Liu is a senior underwriter for upstream energy, while Leong is a senior underwriter for marine, and Lee is a senior underwriter for property.

10. Willis adds quartet to India aviation, aerospace team

Willis has added four specialist brokers to its Indian aviation and aerospace team, according to a statement on Wednesday.

Nisha Solanki, Rushabh Thakkar, Shrutik Pitale and Ganesh Bangera were all most recently with Aon in Mumbai.

Solanki and Thakkar have joined as vice presidents, while Pitale and Bangera have been appointed as managers.

11. BHSI appoints ANZ head of motor

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has appointed Julian Baumbach as its head of motor for Australia and New Zealand.

Sydney-based Baumbach joins from Zurich Insurance, where he was motor underwriting manager of New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory since August 2024.

12. Swiss Re appoints senior casualty treaty underwriter

Swiss Re has appointed Dinesh Kumar as vice president and senior casualty treaty underwriter.

Singapore-based Kumar joins Swiss Re from Munich Re, where he spent six years, most recently as senior casualty treaty underwriter since July.

Credit and political risk insurance (CPRI) broker BPL has opened an office in Tokyo as part of its international expansion, with Kenichi Iwakura appointed as chief executive officer of BPL Japan. Iwakura joins from MUFG Bank, where he held senior leadership roles across the corporate and investment banking division, leading structured finance and corporate banking teams in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, and London.
