InsuranceAsia News wraps up the people moves from the insurance industry in Asia this week.

1. Gallagher Re India appoints new CEO

Gallagher Re has tapped Howden Re’s Minesh Jani as its new CEO for India, according to an IAN exclusive.

Jani was most recently Howden Re’s managing director in Dubai. He is expected to start his new role in June.

He takes over from Vinod Krishnan, who left for Edme Insurance Brokers last year after heading the broker’s country operations from 2023.

2. Aviso Specialty completes mass Lockton raid with 20 appointments

Australian insurance broker Aviso Specialty has unveiled a raft of senior leadership and specialty line appointments following a raid on Lockton.

The broker confirmed the appointment of Patrick Moore as general manager for growth and client strategy, confirming an earlier exclusive from InsuranceAsia News. 

Aviso Specialty also tapped Steven Autrey as head of care community and mission, Stephen Kerridge as head of mining and resources, and Dean Currie as head of people risk solutions.

3. Delta Insurance hires new Australia managing director

Australian specialist MGA Delta Insurance Group has tapped Hamish MacLean as its new managing director for Australia.

MacLean has over 25 years of experience across brokerage and carrier sectors, and joins after more than eight years at Zurich Insurance in Melbourne.

4. Marsh strengthens APAC captive team with 2 strategic appointments, names financial and professional lines leader for Hong Kong and Macau

Marsh has bolstered its Asia Pacific captive capabilities with the appointments of Lawrence Bird as the regional leader for captive solutions and Sean Welsch as the captive consulting leader for APAC.

Bird was previously the director of APAC captive and insurance management at WTW from 2022 to 2023. Before that, he worked at Marsh for over 26 years.

Welsch joins from WTW in Singapore, where he held the position of deputy managing director for over four years.

Gigi Liu has also rejoined Marsh as its financial and professional lines leader for Hong Kong and Macau.

Liu previously worked at Marsh as a vice president from June 2022 until November 2024, according to her LinkedIn.

5. Peak Re names CUO

Hong Kong reinsurer Peak Re has announced the appointment of Philip Hough as its new chief underwriting officer, effective from April 2.

Hough will lead Peak Re’s P&C underwriting strategy and business process, with responsibility for disciplined risk selection, portfolio optimisation and product innovation to support the company’s next phase of profitable growth.

6. Aon make multiple senior appointments across APAC

Aon’s Karl Hamann returns to the Philippines as country CEO, effective from April 1, subject to regulatory approval. He has been Aon’s Indonesia CEO since 2022.

Emily Hallahan has joined Aon in Australia as its client director for the financial institutions and professions team. Sydney-based Hallahan joins after nearly seven years at Chubb, last holding the position of financial institutions product manager for Australia and New Zealand since February 2019.

Alistair Clarke has joined Aon Australia as its new head of specialty. Clarke has relocated from the UK to Australia to take up his new role.

Aon has promoted Geraldine Joyce to national director for financial institutions and professions (FI&P) for Australia, In this role, Melbourne-based Joyce (pictured) will further strengthen capability across Aon’s FI&P portfolio nationally, the broker said.

Aon has appointed Maethinee Raktabutr as a senior trade credit manager. She joins after 13 years with trade credit insurer Coface, having previously spent nearly two years at Aon as an assistance manager between December 2010 and September 2012.

7. Howden snaps up new head of M&A for Japan, elevates previous head

Howden named Tim Hewitt as its head of Japan international solutions and strategy, according to a LinkedIn update.

Tokyo-based Hewitt was snapped up by Howden in June as the head of the broker’s Japan M&A practice.

Aon’s Shunsuke Takechi has replaced Hewitt as head of M&A for Japan.

Takechi is a qualified Japanese attorney with over 13 years of experience and holds the distinction of being the first and only registered senior Japanese lawyer in the insurance brokerage industry.

8. Gallagher hires executive director for credit, surety, and political risks

Global broker Gallagher has appointed Ian Rouse as executive director for credit, surety and political risks.

Sydney-based Rouse has over 20 years of experience in political risk and structured credit, both as a broker and underwriter, and was most recently senior surety adviser at Marsh.

9. Liberty taps Great Eastern leader to head unified Singapore unit

Liberty has appointed Jimmy Tong as chief executive officer of its unified business in Singapore, the company said in a press release.

Following Liberty’s Singapore company unification, former chief executive of Liberty Insurance Yasar Fistikci has taken the new role of chief product officer for Singapore.

Nicole Lim, the current chief executive officer of Liberty Specialty Markets, has elected to explore opportunities outside Liberty and will depart the business at the end of April.

Tong is a seasoned Singapore executive, spending the past 10 years leading and overseeing Great Eastern’s general and group Insurance for Singapore, and the prior 15 years in leadership roles at UOB.

10. Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance appoints Hiroshi Umiyama as president, CEO

Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance has named Hiroshi Umiyama as its new president and CEO, effective from April 1.

He succeeds Shinichiro Funabiki, who will transition to the role of chairman of the board at the insurer while retaining his position as CEO of its parent company, MS&AD Holdings.

11. Chubb Australia promotes casualty underwriter to senior property underwriter

Chubb Australia has promoted Liam O’Sullivan to senior property underwriter, he confirmed via a LinkedIn update.

He joined Chubb initially as an assistant property underwriter before being promoted to casualty underwriter in November 2021.

12. bolttech names new Malaysia GM

Global insurtech bolttech has appointed Chitra Karan Mukundan as its new general manager in Malaysia.

Mukundan was most recently head of independent distribution partners with Chubb in Indonesia, and has also worked in Malaysia, Thailand, and Hong Kong for the likes of Manulife, Allianz, and AIA.

13. Crawford Australia elevates executive adjuster to head of global technical services

International loss adjuster Crawford has promoted Joel Arbuthnot to head of global technical services (GTS) in Australia.

Sydney-based Arbuthnot joined Crawford Australia in 2017 and has held several roles, most recently as executive adjuster and team leader for GTS in New South Wales

14. Markel Insurance adds senior financial lines claims adjuster in Australia

Markel Insurance has added Mark Christen as a senior claims adjuster to its professional and financial risks (PFR) team in Australia.

Christen has been appointed to the role with immediate effect, and will lead Markel’s response to PFR claims handling, including high-value and complex claims, and play a key role in deepening Markel’s broker relationships and expanding its market connections.

15. Willis promotes Pacific M&A director to head of Asia M&A

Willis has tapped Mareli Vermeulen as head of M&A for Asia.

Vermeulen will relocate to Singapore from Australia to take up her new role in the first quarter of 2026 within Willis’ financial and executive risks business.

16. Tokio Marine Management Australasia hires chief claims officer

Tokio Marine Management Australasia (TMMA) has appointed Daniel Sirone as chief claims officer.

Sydney-based Sirone was most recently executive general manager for home claims and building services at Sedgwick, where he worked for 10 years.

17. Arch Insurance Australia elevates regional manager to head of PI

Arch Insurance Australia has promoted Aisling Hegarty as head of professional indemnity (PI).

Melbourne-based Hegarty has nearly 13 years of experience in insurance and was previously the southern region manager for PI since May 2022.

18.  HDI Global Japan taps new head of claims

HDI Global has tapped Takanobu Saigo as its new head of claims for its Japan branch.

Saigo has joined HDI Global after almost 18 years in various claims roles at MSIG in Singapore, Bangkok and Tokyo.

Swiss Re has appointed Isabel Rawlence as senior client manager for public sector solutions (PSS) in Australia and New Zealand (ANZ). She was previously an underwriting manager at the Australian Reinsurance Pool Corporation for three years.

Simon Global secured approval as Lloyd’s registered broker. The company also appointed Haksu Jeon as CEO of SGIS Indonesia to bolster local operations and partnerships with Indonesian insurers and reinsurers. Meanwhile, Hajun Shin has been promoted to managing director and deputy chief broking officer, leading the Korea broking centre within the broker’s global business centre (GBC) organisation, which is led by Read He, who also serves as chief broking officer of SGIS Korea. Additionally, Peonghoon Rha and Jeonghoo Kim were promoted to managing director within Agile Risk Solutions, the retail marketing division of SGIS Korea.

Sarah Court will become the first female chair of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) in the agency’s 35-year history, and will start her five-year term on June 1, subject to confirmation from the Governor‑General, replacing outgoing chair Joe Longo, who will retire in May.
