Aon, Zurich, Chubb, Munich Re, Sompo: 10 APAC insurance people moves of the week

1. Aon appoints new global re CEO
Aon appointed Lloyd’s chief executive John Neal as global chairman of climate solutions and global CEO of reinsurance, effective following the conclusion of his notice period. Lloyd’s confirmed Neal’s departure, and said that his departure date would be confirmed in due course.

2. Zurich promotes APAC CUO
Zurich Commercial Insurance promoted its APAC regional chief underwriting officer, Debra Burford, to global head of claims for financial lines, cyber and credit lines claims. Burford joined Zurich in January 2019 as chief underwriting officer based in Singapore before being promoted to APAC regional chief underwriting officer in July 2021.

3. Chubb names Singapore, Asia heads
Chubb promoted James Brown to head of global broking for Asia. Singapore-based Brown was most recently head of the major accounts division in Singapore with the carrier.
Chubb Singapore also promoted Carles Tondo to head of property and technical lines. Tondo has been at Chubb for over three years, most recently as head of property and previously as chief underwriting officer for property in APAC.

4. Munich Re’s new Beijing CEO, stronger Specialty Asia team
Munich Re appointed Adrian Goh (pictured) as its Beijing branch chief executive officer, effective from April 1. He will succeed Steven Chang, currently chief executive of Greater China P&C and chief executive officer of Munich Re’s Beijing Branch, who will retire at the end of March.
Munich Re’s Lloyd’s Asia platform also strengthened its team with two senior hires, appointing Bernadette Hung as fine arts and specie underwriter and Bee Tin Goh as cargo underwriter.

5. Sompo beefs up APAC ranks
Global commercial and consumer property and casualty (re)insurance provider Sompo promoted Pablo Diago to chief claims officer for Asia Pacific. Diago first joined Sompo in November 2023 as head of claims for commercial lines in APAC from Crawford & Company.

6. Sedgwick shuffles Asian leadership group
Sedgwick announced the promotion of Cameron Lee to chief executive officer in Taiwan, with managing director of Sedgwick Taiwan Andy Liou also transitioning to the role of chairman.
In Japan, Shuji Tanaka has been appointed as chief executive officer for operations, with managing director Takeshi Nagao transitioning to the role of chairman.

7. Lockton taps new Asia executive director
Global broker Lockton appointed Singapore-base Christina Ong as executive director for Asia. Ong’s appointment is expected to strengthen the broker’s specialty capabilities in the region. She joins from Price Forbes (formerly Ed Broking), where she was chairman of its Asia operations.

8. Markel hires new APAC lead
Markel appointed Jack Taylor (pictured) as executive, distribution strategies and business development. Taylor, who joins from Zurich Insurance, will be based in Singapore and will lead broker engagement across the region.

9. Coface rejigs APAC roles
Coface appointed Supanwongse (Dean) Weeraworawit as country manager for Thailand, effective January 1. Bangkok-based Weeraworawit will supervise the company’s operations in Thailand as it expands its credit insurance and credit management services in the market.
The Trade credit insurer also appointed Karen Ong as head of commercial for Singapore, effective from January 1. Singapore-based Ong will be responsible for driving new business, retention and executing the commercial strategy in line with the company’s strategic ambitions for Singapore.
And it further reshuffled its Asia-Pacific leadership and promoted Chris Murphy to general manager of its Hong Kong branch, with Ronald Chai succeeding him as regional head of mid-market. The carrier has also appointed Sarah Chu as Taiwan general manager, succeeding incumbent Yuli Chang, who has retired.

10. MSIG Singapore promotes new COO, CFO
MSIG Singapore elevated two senior executives, with the firm redesignating Sharon Teo as chief operating officer and Chock Ker Ching as chief financial officer. Teo had been senior vice president for corporate services at MSIG Singapore since June 2015, while Chock had been senior vice president for finance at MSIG Singapore since January 2023.

Loss adjuster Crawford Australia appointed Paul Hardy as an executive adjuster for liability based in Victoria, while global broker WTW appointed Ostwald Lam as associate director with a focus on claims services. Meanwhile, Singapore-based Adi Salleh returned to Samsung Re as a senior underwriter for property.
