Aon, Sompo, Lockton, FM, Crawford: 10 APAC insurance people moves of the week

InsuranceAsia News wraps up the people moves from the insurance industry in Asia this week.
Great American Insurance Group, Great Eastern Malaysia, Great Eastern General Insurance Malaysia, Allianz Partners, HDI Global and Allianz Commercial also made personnel changes over the last week.
1. Busy week for Aon
Aon has also appointed Terence Williams as head of commercial risk solutions for Asia Pacific. Williams will be based in Singapore and report to Joe Peiser, global CEO of commercial risk solutions, and Anne Corona, CEO of Asia Pacific.
Aon has also promoted Lee Huang Ng to head of Taiwan, effective from April 1, subject to regulatory approval from the Taiwan Financial Supervisory Commission.
The global broker has also appointed Kris Karlsson as head of M&A and transaction solutions, Pacific, effective immediately. He will be based in Sydney and report to Eden Fletcher, head of specialty solutions, Australia.
Aon has also promoted Helen Lockwood to head of affinity and small business in Australia, with immediate effect, while Aon’s Reinsurance Solutions has appointed Wesley Roy as head of property for Australia and New Zealand.

2. Sompo appoints chief risk officer, Asia Pacific
Specialty (re)insurer Sompo has appointed Lily Claydon (pictured) as chief risk officer for Asia Pacific, effective March 3. Claydon will be responsible for leading Sompo’s APAC risk management, governance and analytics, in addition to developing talent and capabilities across the region, according to the press release.
Sompo had earlier promoted Jasmine Chan to senior vice president for ceded reinsurance in Asia Pacific with immediate effect. Chan will play an instrumental role in coordinating with the commercial and consumer underwriting leads across APAC, as well as market and broker management with the global ceded reinsurance team.

3. Lockton Asia appoints regional senior vice president for operations
Global broker Lockton has appointed Lesley Jamieson as regional senior vice president for operations in Asia, based in Hong Kong. Jamieson will report to Philip Corrigan, regional COO for Asia, and will focus on improving the operational efficiency of the broker.

4. FM promotes broker engagement manager
Commercial property insurer FM has promoted Singapore-based Chia Howe Chang to the role of broker engagement manager. In his 14 years with FM, Chang has served as a field engineer, business development executive and most recently as a global services executive.

5. Crawford Australia strengthens account management team
Crawford Australia has appointed Mark McDermott (pictured) as key account manager. In his new role, Adelaide-based McDermott will manage key accounts for the loss adjuster and build strategic connections within the broker community.

6. Great American names deputy Singapore CEO
Ohio-based commercial specialty carrier Great American Insurance Group has promoted Vanessa Teo to deputy CEO of the Singapore branch. Teo was a key member of the original team that established the insurer’s Singapore branch in 2014.

7. Great Eastern General Insurance Malaysia names Jeremy Yeap as CEO
Great Eastern General Insurance Malaysia has named Jeremy Yeap (pictured) as CEO, effective from February 1. Yeap succeeds Ng Kok Kheng, who retired at the end of January having served as CEO for 17 years.

8. Allianz Partners names MD for Greater SE Asia
Allianz Partners, a B2B2C insurance and assistance services provider, has appointed Dominic Gantner (pictured) as managing director for Greater Southeast Asia (GSEA), effective from March 1. Gantner, who joined the company in 2019, was most recently managing director for Southeast Europe, and will succeed Steve Watkins, who will retire after more than 20 years with the company.

9. Allianz Commercial names deputy Hong Kong CEO
Allianz Commercial has named Horace Gon as deputy CEO of its Hong Kong branch, in addition to his responsibility as head of financial lines for Hong Kong and greater China. Gon took charge on January 1 and will report to Patrick Zeng, CEO for Hong Kong and greater China.

10. Berkley expands in India’s GIFT City with CUO appointment
Berkley Insurance Asia has appointed Ashaya Kantawala as CUO for its branch office in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), India’s financial offshore special economic zone. Prior to joining Berkley, Kantawala was with Tata AIG for 15 years, most recently as national head for casualty lines.

Non-life insurer Generali Insurance Malaysia has promoted Lee Chee Fooi as chief distribution officer, while Australian insurance broking startup domo has recruited Anthony White as its new head of property and construction. HDI Global, meanwhile, has brought on board Joanna D’Silva as its Melbourne-based senior underwriter for engineering.
