MSI permitted to operate in Myanmar’s Thilawa Special Economic Zone

Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co., Ltd. (MSI) has obtained a provisional permit from the Republic of the Union of Myanmar’s Insurance Business Regulatory Board to underwrite general insurance in the Thilawa Special Economic Zone.

MSI was the first Japanese general insurer in Myanmar, having established its Yangon Representative Office in 1995,

The company, formed through a merger between two leading Japanese non-life insurance companies in 2001, benefits from membership in MS&AD Insurance Group, a leading general insurance group that maintains presence in over 39 countries and regions.

MSI’s insurance underwriting operations currently span across ten ASEAN member states and Hong Kong.
