JLT establishes presence in Myanmar

Jardine Lloyd Thompson (JLT), has opened a representative office in Myanmar.

The company joins a growing list of international insurers that have established local offices in Myanmar after the country opened its doors to foreign investors.

JLT’s presence in Myanmar, however, will be limited to sharing its knowledge and expertise with Myanmar insurance companies and local businesses, though it will not be allowed to provide services directly.

Myanmar only currently allows three Japanese insurers to operate in the country through the special economic zones.

The government said it will open its door further to foreign insurers but it did not give a timeframe.

JLT’s office in Yangon will act as source of information for the company’s international clients that are looking for investment opportunities in Myanmar, said JLT Thailand CEO Mark Johnson.
