Dubai to implement ‘no insurance, no visa’ policy

The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has urged all employers and sponsors in the country to comply with the new regulation that requires health insurance coverage before applying for a new visa or renewal.

The DHA has linked the health insurance scheme to visa issuance and renewal to ensure that resident expatriates in Dubai have access to essential health insurance at all times.

The DHA has partnered with the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs to ensure that no new visa will be issued or an existing one renewed if the applicant does not have health insurance coverage in place.

The regulation will be enforced from 1 August 2015, a day after the deadline for the implementation of the second phase of the scheme. Companies falling in the third phase of the implementation will have until June 2016 to comply with regulations, the DHA announced.
